Theory in use - PhD candidate pre-conference seminarin Lund (Sweden) The seminar is carried out in collaboration with the 6th Nordic conference on Construction Management and Economics. The purpose of the seminar is to reflect on our choices of theories and theoretical framework in qualitative research: what possibilities and constraints do these choices entail; how are the theories applied in the analysis, and later invoked in the discussion; how may theories be expanded; how may a theory influence the choice of method? A key feature of the seminar is that we work with the PhD student’s own texts. For this reason it is important that as many supervisors as possible participate. It is our experience from past seminars that the mix of supervisors and students enrich the discussions and the feedback to the students. For the seminar the participating PhD candidate are expected to write a short paper (max 5 pages) consisting of a very brief description of the problem and purpose of their doctoral studies, a review of the most relevant literature for the study at hand and a description of the theoretical framework. If you are presenting a paper at the conference you may use it as a base and expand the theoretical section. You will need to do this later on in your thesis so this is an excellent opportunity for you to practice and receive valuable feedback. At the seminar each PhD student will present their paper orally. You will also receive feedback on your written paper. The seminar is free of charge, but requires the brief paper mentioned above, and will take place at the conference venue. It takes place on April 12th, 10.00 -18.00. A detailed schedule will be presented in March 2011. Send the paper to Professor Christine Räisänen, christine.raisanen@chalmers.se and Associate professor Göran Lindahl, goran.lindahl@chalmers.se no later than 2011-03-30. |
